We Proudly Serve the Pets of Manhattan, KS, and Beyond
At Tail Wagger Pet Care, we get a ton of interesting questions from pet parents. Below are some FAQs that might help answer any questions or concerns. Please feel free to call us at (785) 776-9686 for any other concerns you might have about your pet.
What vaccinations will my pet need to have had to stay with you?
To ensure the safety of all our guests, we require that all boarded pets are on the following vaccines:
- Rabies: 1-year or 3-year
- Parvo/Distemper: Annual
- Bordetella: Every 6 months or annually, depending on your veterinarian’s preference
Is there someone onsite 24 hours a day?
We have an on-site apartment with staff available for overnight guests. We do not offer after-hours drop-off or pick-up as it could disturb the guests as they settle in from a long day of play and activity.
Does my dog need their ears plucked or their anal sac expressed?
Part of our regular grooming routine is to check ears and anal sacs. Your personal vet should be asked for their expectations for those two areas. We will alert you to any issues we see so that you can have them addressed at your next appointment.
Ear canals should be clean and clear of hair. They should not have a discharge, odor, redness, or swelling. We will clip the hair directly in front of the opening and pluck any hair that is easily removed.
We check for any swelling, discharge, or odor in the area of your pet’s anal sac. Our purpose is to let you know if it looks like any issues that your vet may need to address. Many veterinarians do not want the anal sac manipulated as it can cause problems. Learn more at PetMD: Anal Glands on Dogs.
Do you offer grooming for overnight guests?
We offer grooming for boarders who will be heading home. It is best to schedule a grooming appointment when you make your boarding reservations as our schedule is tight and usually a few weeks down the road.
What shots will my pet need before they can stay with you?
DOGS:
- Parvo/Distemper – Annual
- Rabies – 1, 2, or 3 years
- Bordetella – Every 6 months or annually, depending on your veterinarian’s preference.
What can I bring with my pet for boarding?
You may bring any personal items that might help your pet feel more comfortable overnight: a favorite toy, blanket, snack, or even a hoodie or jacket that you wear. We have everything your pet needs but sometimes they like finding “their stuff” in their run when they come in for snack and bedtime.
